- Appointment by Franz Josef Strauß as State Secretary to the Bavarian State Government
- 17 years as State Secretary, 14.5 years in the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs until the end of 2007
- In between 3 years deputy club chairman of the CSU
- For many years member of the supervisory boards of Munich and Nuremberg airports, Messe Nürnberg, Bayerngas and Rhein-Main-Donau AG
- Since 2008 freelance business consultant and member of the supervisory boards of various companies
- From 2008 - 2016 honorary president of the German East Forum
- Since 2011 honorary president of the European Economic Forum in Bavaria
