OWWF President Eberhard Sinner, former Minister of State, opened the conference, followed by a video message from Albert Füracker, Minister of State for Finance and Home Affairs, who emphasised the importance of stable export conditions for the Bavarian economy.

Dr Michael Fraas, Economic Officer of the City of Nuremberg, emphasised the importance of the topic of sanctions in international trade for SMEs in the northern Bavarian region and drew attention to the existing risks in this area.

In his keynote speech, Stephen A. Wilcox, Managing Director of the European Sanctions and Export Control Society, impressively presented the current threat scenarios posed by illegal technology acquisitions by countries such as Russia, Iran, China and North Korea. He pointed out the urgent need for industry and science to protect themselves from such practices.
The subsequent panel discussion with experts such as Juven Martin (BIS Officer - U.S. Department of Commerce / BIS Bureau of Industry and Security), Claus Schweinheim (HAT Lab Tec GmbH), Dr Michael Fraas (City of Nuremberg) and Dr Lars Mesenbrink (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Sanktionen und Exportkontrolle e.V.), moderated by OWWF Board Member Bill Holler, ensured a lively exchange and intensive participation of the participants.

The evening ended with the prospect of further business talks, also supported by the City of Nuremberg, in which the topic of sanctions and export control will be explored in greater depth. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Sanktionen und Exportkontrolle e.V. (German Association for Sanctions and Export Control) with Bill Holler as Executive Director offers companies the opportunity to be integrated into a worldwide network as a member and thus to stay informed. This is an essential contribution to minimising risks in the export business.
