Hungary in Europe

Hungary in Europe
Wednesday, 11 February 2026, 6 p.m.
Between integration and independence
Bavarian State Parliament • Maximilianeum, White Rose Hall
Hungary's role in the fall of the Iron Curtain is unforgettable:
Hungary has transformed itself from a pioneer of the European idea to a brake on European integration. Hungary has been a member of the European Union since May 2004.
For years, there has been and continues to be potential for conflict between Hungary and the European Commission over the obligation of every EU member state to uphold the rule of law and media freedom.
Elections will be held in Hungary on 12 April 2026. As the number of participants in demonstrations shows, mobilisation for this election is very high. Victor Orbán is being challenged by Peter Magyar, who is currently leading in the polls.
Reason enough to turn our attention to Hungary. The event will also include an open general meeting with new elections. Please refer to the programme for details.
