Kazakhstan - a country on the move

Maximilianeum Round

Kazakhstan - a country on the move

Report from the event:

The Kazakh Vice-Consul Marat Karimov presented his country's privatisation programme to interested representatives from politics and business and presented investment opportunities for international investors.

Kazakh Invest was founded to promote the privatization and support of foreign investors. Investing companies receive 10 years tax exemption, the foreign share of the capital can exceed 50%. Foundations in the fields of agriculture, chemical industry, mining and metallurgy, mechanical engineering and infrastructure are particularly suitable. Currently there are already 200 German companies in Kazakhstan, e. g. Linde and Knauf.

During the discussion on legal certainty for foreign investors and business relations with Kazakhstan, lawyers reported on their experiences and pointed to the danger of legal difficulties.

The subsequent debate also highlighted the need for training of professionals in administration, trade and industry. The example of the dual training of skilled workers was mentioned here in particular. An interested European university was already represented in the audience.

The requirement to not only export raw materials but also to create a value-added chain through the further processing of existing mineral resources was also addressed.

During the further discussion, it also became known that various sectors had already sent business delegations to the ninth largest country in the world in recent years, e. g. the health and construction sectors. Cooperation possibilities were identified: Kazakh clinics had procured modern technology but lacked the necessary specialist personnel.

After a closing speech by OWWF President Eberhard Sinner, OWWF Vice President Hermann Pönisch gave an outlook on the planned events in 2018.

Text of the announcement:

This year's eighth and final round of Maximilianeum talks about a country that is becoming increasingly important for our supply of oil and gas.

However, Kazakhstan wants to make the transition from a supplier of raw materials to an economic nation with all production stages. To achieve this, the country needs experience, but above all the cooperation of our economy.

We are pleased to have won a representative of the Kazakh consulate who will give us a short presentation about his country. He will then be happy to answer your questions:
